SANFL 2006 ROUND 15: PORT
ADELAIDE v WOODVILLE-WEST TORRENS
Eagles make it eight
By ERIC WELTNER
WOODVILLE-West Torrens is in the box seat for a double-chance come finals
time after its powerful second half performance at Alberton Oval on Saturday.
The Eagles sit two games clear of both Central and Port, their main
rivals for a top three position, after disposing of both in consecutive weeks.
With its winning streak extended to eight, the club is now in a strong
position to make a tilt at the minor premiership.
Three first quarter goals by key forward Mark Passador
helped the Eagles off to a flying start, before being hauled back by the
Magpies during the second term.
After half-time Woodville-West Torrens dominated the clearances, with
experienced Paul Lindsay and rookie Sam Jacobs overwhelming Port's lone ruckman
James Meiklejohn.
Returning from a long-term injury, Crows-listed Nathan Bock eclipsed
Clive Waterhouse, potentially the main danger to the Eagles' defence.
During his post-match address, coach Ron
Fuller told his charges he was happy with their tackling and pressure at the
contests.
“I thought the third quarter was the one that set the game up,” Fuller
said after the game.
“The fact that we were able to turn it around was a good sign of their maturity.”
The Eagles are set to maintain the pressure on North for top position
over the next fortnight, playing bottom two clubs Sturt and West.
