JET: Shine On (Capitol/EMI)
THE cover evokes a mid-period Beatles album and so do the sounds on
Jet's second effort, with more than a few nods to psychedelia.
In fact, the Melbourne quartet has made the
Fab Four album that Oasis wishes it could make. Much like Noel Gallagher, Jet
certainly isn't out to reinvent the wheel. Most of the songs will remind power
pop fans of other songs, but Jet has captured enough of the '60s spirit to get
away with it. Singer/guitarist Nic Cester rips into Holiday, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, Bring It On Back and Rip It Up,
proving he can match it with any rock belter in the
business, and then delivers an uplifting McCartney-style ballad with title
track.
