CHRIS FINNEN: Electric Number One (independent)
ADELAIDE guitar ace Chris Finnen has such confidence in his own musical prowess that
he's able to twist Hey Joe into a reggae tune and get away with it. Finnen's first CD release in some time captures him live at
the Gaslight Tavern and Brahma Lodge Hotel with his regular rhythm section,
bassist Frank Lang and drummer Trapper. It's a mixture of originals,
traditional blues and some pickings from Peter Green and Jimi
Hendrix. The real joy is in hearing Finnen let loose:
he's a genuinely inspired soloist who isn't afraid to walk a tightrope. Never
content to coast, the singer/guitarist stamps all of the material with his
lively spirit. Highlights include Hat
Coat and Shoes, You Don't Love Me, 32 20 Blues, Fool No More and a
shimmering Little Wing.
